Friends of Kenya has an independent Board of Directors:


Eric Koops, LVO - Chairman

Erick Koops

Eric has been involved with young people since working for his Gold in the Duke of Edinburgh Award when he helped to run a youth club. For over ten years he worked alongside HRH The Duke of Edinburgh to establish The World Fellowship to support young people in over ninety countries participating in this leading youth development program. This experience led him to establish The Friends of Africa Foundation to assist young people into sustainable development.

Eric is a chartered accountant, training with Price Waterhouse in London, and business and entrepreneurial investor in several service businesses. Some of these have become publicly listed in London and Amsterdam.

His wife, Mary, is a High Court judge and they have two children to add to the two from a previous marriage.



Michael Turner

Managing Director, East Africa

Michael TurnerMichael has been responsible for Actis's investments in East Africa for the last ten years and latterly has been managing the $93m Pan Africa Actis Africa Agribusiness Fund. Based in Nairobi, Kenya Michael is an experienced private equity investor and has developed a deep understanding of agribusiness in Africa including in the tea, horticulture, arable, sugar and forestry sectors. Prior to joining Actis, Michael worked in investment banking in London, for Lehman Brothers and Kleinwort Benson, having started his career with Price Waterhouse.

Michael holds a first class degree in Civil Engineering from Southampton University and is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountant in England & Wales.





Mrs. Wamuyu Mahinda

Wamuyu MahindaMrs. Wamuyu Mahinda is an Independent Consultant, with a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA). She is a highly motivated and skilled individual with a keen interest in Youth Economic Empowerment. She holds a special interest in the development and economic empowerment of the girl child.

Mrs. Mahinda who is married with 3 children, has experienced successful youth development programs firsthand as; Team Leader of Chora Bizna program which was the 1st ever youth business plan competition in Kenya conducted in partnership with Ministry of Youth Affairs, CEO Kenya youth Business Trust, Chief Commissioner Kenya Girl Guides Association to mention a few.

Mrs. Mahinda is also a Board Member of World Association of Girl Guides and Girl scouts, HIV Free generation, DOT Kenya among others.
